Dexters do not require as much pasture per animal as larger breeds, which is perfect for our small farm. They are a very hardy breed. Our Dexters are gentle, friendly animals, and their small size makes them easy to work with. Our cows calve easily and are wonderful mothers. Our bull, Tarus, is as gentle and friendly as can be. Ashley, my niece goes out in the pasture with the cattle to get her horse without any problems from the cattle and has since she was 5 years old. She can't wait till she is old enough to take one in 4-H. Ashley just turned 7 this past week so she has a bit of time before she can join 4-H.
